A new type of rice called Linghong A was created by crossing different rice plants. It has good grain quality and is very good for making hybrid seeds. Linghong A has stable male sterility, high outcrossing rate, and good resistance to a disease called blast. It also has good agronomic traits and can produce high-yielding and high-quality rice when crossed with other plants. This new rice was officially approved in Guangxi in 2000.
