Coal gasification in power plants can be done using different methods, affecting their performance and cost. Researchers studied six power plants using different gasification and CO2 capture technologies. They found that the Selexol CO2 capture method is better for both types of gasification. The air-blown plant is more efficient without CO2 capture, but the oxygen-blown plant is better with 90% CO2 removal. However, the air-blown plant is cheaper to operate overall.
