Fly Ash Disposal Breakthrough: Cement Reduces Heavy Metal Leaching Risks.
Municipal solid waste incineration in a southern city produces fly ash containing hazardous heavy metals. By adding 10% cement, the leaching of Cd, Pb, and Zn can be reduced to safe levels for disposal. The risk to human health from these fly ashes was assessed, and it was found that they may be exempt from hazardous waste classification. The current and long-term disposal methods for fly ash in the city were also discussed.
