The study looked at how well a wetland system can clean slightly dirty water. They found that the wetland system reduced nitrogen levels by about half on average. The wetland had different levels of bacteria and processes in different parts, with the surface flow wetland being the most effective at cleaning the water. The wetland's subsurface flow area was key for removing nitrogen.
