New genetic transformation system boosts rice resistance against diseases.
Researchers developed a highly efficient method to genetically modify a type of rice called Mudanjiang 8. This rice is good for studying genes that make plants resistant to diseases. They improved how a type of bacteria infects the rice to make the genetic changes. In tests, they found that the method worked well, with over 70% of the rice cells and over 35% of the rice plants being successfully transformed. This new method is now being used in many other types of rice as a standard way to change their genes.
