The researchers studied factors affecting the maturation of pig oocytes in a lab setting. They looked at different culture mediums, hormones, follicle sizes, and cumulus cell levels. Oocytes matured better in mTCM199 medium compared to NCSU-23. Using a combination of hormones led to higher maturation rates than using them individually. Ovary follicles larger than 3mm had higher maturation rates than smaller ones. Oocytes with more cumulus cells layers matured better than those with fewer layers.
