Clean Coal Power Generation: High Efficiency, Low Pollution, and Cost Challenges
The article discusses a technology called Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) for generating clean coal power. IGCC combines gasification and a gas-steam cycle to produce electricity efficiently with low pollution and water usage. Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) is a key part of this technology to capture and store carbon dioxide emissions. The main challenge is the cost of implementing CCS and IGCC together. The article suggests ways to overcome this obstacle for wider adoption of these clean coal power generation technologies.
