Untapped Oil Reserves Discovered in Shandong, Poised to Transform Energy Landscape
The researchers studied sediment deposits in the Bonan Oil Field, Shandong, focusing on turbidity currents in the Paleogene Shahejie Formation. They identified ten different types of sandstone and mudstone layers, grouping them into nine associations. Within these layers, five microfacies were found, including channels formed by sediment flows, areas between channels, broad layers of moving sediment, deep lake deposits, and sections where rocks have slipped. The researchers looked closely at how these different microfacies appear in well logs, providing detailed insights into the sedimentary characteristics of the area.
