Ecological public welfare forest construction helps improve sustainable forest management by enhancing the quantity, quality, and structure of forest resources. A study in Lin'an found that this construction positively impacts sustainable management, especially when farmers earn income from non-agricultural sources or non-wood forest products. Increasing compensation is not always needed to improve the sustainability of ecological public welfare forests.
