Climate change revealed: Wet fan delta-lacustrine system in Tarim Basin.
The study analyzed sedimentary facies in the Yuqi area of the Tarim Basin from the Triassic to Jurassic period. The researchers used field observations, core drilling, and other data to determine that the area had a wet fan delta-lacustrine sedimentary system. They found that the climate was humid during this time, with sediment sources mainly from the southern margin of the Shaya uplift. Two complete depositional cycles were identified in the Triassic formation, including wet fan delta and lake environments. Due to tectonic movements, the top of the Triassic formation and Upper-Middle Jurassic formation were missing. The Lower Jurassic formation showed the development of a wet fan delta plain. These findings help understand the past environment and provide valuable data for oil and gas exploration in the area.
