New extraction method unlocks vibrant natural pigment source from bacteria.
Researchers compared different methods to extract carotenoid pigment from Rhodoplanes elegans. The best method involved breaking cells with ultrasound, resulting in 19.5 mg of pigment per gram of dry cells. The pigment content remained stable after 45 hours of culturing the strain. Acid-heating destroyed the pigment. This study offers insights for utilizing natural pigment resources.
