The current classification for rocky desertification in Southwest China's karst mountain areas is too simple. A new classification system has been suggested in this paper. It considers soil loss, rocky desertification extent, and ground material composition to better understand changes in the landscape. This new system helps analyze the causes of rocky desertification, plan control measures, and select appropriate actions.
