New fractal model predicts soil water retention for improved agriculture.
The study developed a fractal model to predict how soil retains water along the Tarim River. By analyzing soil samples, researchers found that soil particle sizes and water retention curves follow fractal patterns. The fractal dimensions of water retention curves increase with more clay or less sand in the soil. These dimensions are related to the fractal dimensions of particle size distribution. The model accurately predicted soil water retention curves, showing that fractal patterns can help understand how soil holds water in different conditions.
