Soil moisture levels in grasslands impact water availability for vegetation.
The study looked at how soil moisture varies in different types of vegetation in Inner Mongolia. They found that soil moisture content is related to soil suction, especially at low and medium levels. The soil water characteristics were similar across the different vegetation types. In some areas, soil particle size increased with depth, leading to less available water. However, in one type of grassland, soil particle size first increased and then decreased, affecting water availability in a different way.
