Soil nutrient study reveals key factors shaping alpine meadow landscapes.
Researchers studied the differences in soil nutrients in an alpine meadow area. They used GIS technology and a method called Kriging to analyze samples from different paths. The soil nutrients with the most variation were total nitrogen, followed by organic matter and total phosphorus. Altitude, land shape, slope, plants, and root distribution all affect the soil's nutrient levels. The best model to show how these nutrients are spread out is the semi-variance model.
