Optimal water and fertilizer balance boosts winter wheat yield significantly.
The researchers studied how different levels of water stress and fertilization affect the growth and yield of winter wheat during the seedling stage. They found that slight water stress and fertilization with 0.3 g/kg nitrogen and 0.15 g/kg phosphorus resulted in the highest yield. Severe water stress decreased growth and yield, while rewatering after slight stress increased yield. Increasing fertilizer amount also increased yield. Therefore, a balance of water stress and proper fertilization can help winter wheat grow well and produce the most yield.
