Ensemble Forecast Outperforms Single Forecast in Predicting Extreme Weather Events
A study evaluated how well a group of weather forecasts worked in predicting rain and typhoons in Zhejiang. They used different versions of a computer model to make 8 forecasts. The results showed that the group forecast was better than just one forecast. The group forecast was especially good at predicting rain in autumn and typhoons in summer. However, it wasn't as good at predicting temperatures, but it did well at predicting wind speeds.
