Cage in mine tunnels alters electromagnetic wave frequencies, impacting communication and safety.
The cage in a mine tunnel affects the cutoff frequency of electromagnetic waves. The researchers used a method to analyze this by treating the tunnel as a waveguide. They found that the cage lowers one type of cutoff frequency and raises another. As the cage gets bigger, one cutoff frequency drops slowly while the other rises quickly. When the cage and tunnel are almost the same size, a certain type of cutoff frequency degenerates.
