Farmers Can Boost Crop Yields and Efficiency with Optimized Nitrogen Application
The study looked at how applying nitrogen to maize at different times affects how the plant uses and stores nitrogen. They found that applying nitrogen increased the amount of nitrogen in the plant and grain. Most nitrogen moved from the stem and sheath to the ear early on, and from the leaf later. The efficiency of using nitrogen decreased with application, but the total amount of nitrogen in the plant and the efficiency of using it were highest when nitrogen was applied at a specific time.
