Algae blooms threaten Qinhuai River ecosystem due to water pollution.
Algae blooms have been a growing issue in Qinhuai River due to water pollution. Researchers studied the distribution of chlorophyll-a in the river and its relationship with environmental factors. They found that chlorophyll-a levels varied along the river, with the highest concentration at Mamuqiao. Phosphorous was identified as a key factor for blue-green algae growth. Chlorophyll-a was positively correlated with pH and dissolved oxygen, as well as with nitrite-nitrogen, but not with other nitrogen compounds. These findings help understand the factors influencing algae blooms in flowing waters.
