An experiment in the western mountains of Hubei tested 21 different types of poplar trees. Five clones, like 'Lushan' and 'M81-18', showed strong growth and stability, making them great for short-rotation plantations. However, seven clones, such as 'Zhongjia-8' and 'Zhongjian-1', didn't do well due to low survival rates and slow growth. This study helps identify the best poplar clones for planting in the western mountain areas of Hubei.
