Actual evapotranspiration on crop fields in Western China linked to water scarcity.
The study looked at how much water crops in Western China need to grow, using data from soil moisture at 16 stations over 9 years. They found that the amount of water crops need matches the amount of rainfall in the area. Crops in drier areas need more water, and this water often comes from irrigation. Overall, the water needs of crops in Western China depend on both rainfall and irrigation.
