Climate change in Yellow River Basin leads to drier southeast, wetter elsewhere.
Climate in the headwaters of the Yellow River Basin has changed over the past 50 years. It has become drier and warmer in the southeast, but wetter and warmer in other areas. Temperatures have been increasing, especially in the last 30 years. Sunshine duration has decreased at lower elevation stations but increased at higher elevation ones. Relative humidity has increased at lower elevation stations but decreased at higher elevation ones. Wind speed has decreased, especially at lower elevation stations. The researchers used data from 13 weather stations to analyze these changes and found that a 30-year time interval is suitable for studying climate change in the region.
