Polluted Xinchang River Threatens Downstream Communities' Water Supply
In 2011, scientists studied the water quality of the Xinchang River downstream area. They checked the groundwater, surface water, and pipe network to see if it was clean or polluted. Their tests showed that the main issues in the river were low oxygen levels, organic waste, and chemicals like phosphorus, iron, and manganese. The surface water was a bit dirty, while most of the groundwater was clean, except for some manganese and bacteria. The pipes met the water quality rules. To keep the river water clean, they suggest managing manganese, iron, organic waste, and oxygen levels in the surface water, as well as manganese and bacteria in the groundwater.
