Rice Hulls vs Sawdust: Impact on Swine Feces Composting Efficiency
A study looked at how different materials affect composting of pig waste. They used pig feces with sawdust, rice hull, and rice germ to make compost. The compost with sawdust got hotter and had more nutrients than the one with rice hull. The compost with rice germ didn't get very hot. Both composts increased in nutrients over time. The compost with sawdust lost more water. After 9 days, both composts used up a lot of oxygen, but the one with sawdust used more.
