Fractal dimension is a useful tool for understanding roughness and patterns in images. A new method called local fractal box dimension has been developed to measure these features in pictures. Compared to other techniques, this method is efficient and accurate. The practical results on different types of images show that this approach works well for analyzing textures and shapes in pictures.
