Coastline at Yangtze River Estuary Shifting Rapidly Due to Environmental Changes.
The tidal flat at Yuantuojiao Point, where the Yangtze River meets the Yellow Sea, has changed significantly in recent years. Due to sea reclamation and storm surges, the coastline has shifted eastward by 6 km in the last 40 years. Sedimentation rates have increased, with the salt marsh and muddy tidal flat experiencing rapid siltation since 2006. The front cliff of the salt marsh has retreated, leading to its extinction. These changes are a response to environmental factors like sea reclamation, storm surges, and tidal processes.
