Optimizing Nitrogen Fertilizer Use Boosts Winter Wheat Yield in China
The study looked at how different amounts of nitrogen fertilizer and irrigation affected the yield, water use efficiency, and nitrogen use efficiency of winter wheat in North China. They tested six nitrogen fertilizer applications and two irrigation levels on wheat crops. The results showed that there was no significant difference in grain yield between the nitrogen fertilizer applications under limited irrigation. However, water and nitrogen use efficiency decreased as nitrogen application increased. The treatment with 157.5 kg N/ha applied as base fertilizer was found to be the most effective for high yield and efficiency in winter wheat under limited irrigation in North China.
