The researchers used satellite images and other data to study desertification in the Chaobaihe river basin near Beijing. They found that areas with 30-60% vegetation coverage had the most desertification. Most desertification occurred in woodlands, grasslands, and unused land. The researchers concluded that desertification in the area was caused by both natural factors and human activities.
