Land use changes threaten sustainable development in Kiaochow Bay.
Land use changes in Kiaochow Bay were studied using remote sensing and GIS methods. Between 1980 and 1995, cultivated land decreased while grassland and construction land increased. From 1995 to 2000, construction land increased the most, while other land types decreased. Cultivated land was the only type that increased in this period. The study shows that the changes in land use have a significant impact on sustainable development in Kiaochow Bay.
