A model was used to study the tides and currents in Shenzhen Bay. The tides are mostly irregular and the currents flow in a southwest-northeast direction. The ebb tide is slightly faster than the flood tide. Currents are stronger near the channel and mouth of the bay. Water exchange in the bay is weak, leading to poor self-purification capacity.
