Karst soil pH study reveals significant spatial variability in watershed
The researchers studied the variation of soil pH in the Xiaojiang basin in Yunnan using geostatistics and GIS. They found that soil pH varied across different strata, landforms, and land-use types. The soil pH was most variable in sandstone areas and least variable in Quaternary soil. The spatial correlation distance was 12 km, indicating significant heterogeneity in karst soil. The Kriging interpolation showed distinct zones of soil pH values in the watershed.
