Natural forest distribution shifts due to elevation, impacting biodiversity and ecosystems.
The researchers analyzed the natural landscape pattern in Tengchong County by dividing it into 29 elevation belts. They found that the area of natural forests varies with altitude, with larger areas in middle elevations. Different forest types dominate at different altitudes, with Yunnan pine below 1400m, oak forest between 1401-3100m, and bamboo above 3101m. Forest types are more evenly distributed at moderate elevations compared to low and high altitudes. Natural forests below 2300m are more affected by human disturbance.
