Northeast China's Soil Stores Massive Carbon Reserves, Impacting Climate Change.
The study estimated soil organic carbon storage in Northeast China using GIS and soil data. The average carbon density in the region is 16.13 kg/m^2, with higher levels in the northeast and lower in the southwest. Peat and bog soils have the highest carbon density, while Lithosols and sandy soils have the lowest. The total carbon storage in the top 0-1m and top 0-20cm of soil is 12.68Gt and 4.63Gt, respectively. Carbon storage is mainly found in dark brown earth, meadow, and bog soils, with less in mountain meadow and Lithosols.
