Alpine Grassland Slopes Hold Key to Soil Carbon Cycle Balance
Soil labile organic carbon on alpine grassland slopes was studied. The researchers found that this type of carbon makes up 6% of total soil organic carbon and increases with land gradient. There is a strong relationship between labile organic carbon and total organic carbon, with a regression equation to predict their levels. Labile organic carbon is also linked to soil clay content, but this correlation is not significant. Overall, labile organic carbon can be mostly explained by total organic carbon and to a lesser extent by clay content.
