Alarming Levels of Soil Salinity Threaten Crop Growth in Yutian Oasis
Soil salinity affects crop growth. A study in Yutian Oasis, Xinjiang, analyzed soil salt changes to prevent secondary salinization. Results showed high salt in topsoil, with pH 9.1. Salt levels varied from March to September, with Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ as main cations. Anions changed from Cl-, CO2-3, SO2-4, HCO-3 in March, May, July to HCO-3, CO2-3, Cl-, SO2-4 in September. Different correlations were found between total salt content and salt ions in different periods.
