Population growth driving major land use changes in Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone.
The study analyzed land use changes in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone from 2000 to 2010 using remote sensing and geographic information system methods. The research found that structured land and forest land increased, while farm land decreased significantly during this period. Farm land was mostly converted to forest land and structured land. The main driving force behind these changes was increasing population pressure, with rapid social and economic development also playing a role. Government policies and regulations also influenced land use changes in the area.
