Climate change driving rapid expansion of lakes in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Researchers used remote sensing technology to study changes in lake areas in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau over the past 40 years. They found that the number and size of lakes in the region have been increasing, especially in the 2000s-2010s. Lakes in the western and northern regions showed more significant changes compared to the eastern and southern regions. The climate in the plateau has become warmer and more humid, with precipitation being the main factor influencing lake area changes.
