The study looked at how using special nitrogen fertilizers can help increase rice yield and nitrogen uptake in China. They analyzed 48 studies and found that these enhanced fertilizers can boost rice yield by 7.5% and nitrogen uptake by 10.5%. Factors like soil pH, type of fertilizer, and application method all play a role in how effective the fertilizers are. The best practice is to use coated slow-release fertilizers in alkaline soil as basal fertilizer with a total nitrogen rate of 120-180 kg·hm-2. Nitrification inhibitors may not be as effective in increasing nitrogen uptake in Chinese rice fields. Overall, using enhanced efficiency nitrogen fertilizers can improve rice production in China, especially in northern regions.
