Woodland soil structure superior to shrub-grassland, impacting ecosystem health.
The study looked at how different types of plants affect the soil structure in a limestone mountain area. They found that woodlands have more clay and silt in the soil compared to shrub-grasslands. Woodlands also have a higher soil particles fractal dimension. The more clay and silt in the soil, the higher the fractal dimension, while more coarse gravel lowers it. The soil structure is better in woodlands and mixed forests compared to shrub-grasslands. Soil particles fractal dimension is an important measure for evaluating soil quality in different types of vegetation.
