China's Key Regions Battling Sandy Desertification Revealed in New Study
Sandy desertification in China is caused by land degradation from wind erosion in dry regions. The key regions for studying and combating this issue are in farming-grazing areas, semiarid steppes, oasis rims, and lower inland river reaches. Over the past 50 years, sandy desertification has mainly expanded in these regions. In North China, these areas can be divided into 4 large regions and 29 sub-regions based on their characteristics and intensity of development. This information helps guide strategies for controlling sandy desertification in China.
