Bamboo hemicellulose extraction breakthrough could revolutionize sustainable materials production.
The researchers studied bamboo hemicellulose fractions isolated using alkaline hydrogen peroxide. They found that the second and third fractions had high purity, while the first fraction contained a small amount of lignin. These fractions are mainly xylan-hemicellulose with a high xylose content. The hemicelluloses are non-crystalline and become more uniform in structure with increasing grade. Multi-stage separation improves purity and structural homogeneity of hemicellulose.
