Human disturbance leads to significant decrease in plant species diversity.
The study looked at how human activity affects the variety of plants in a riparian zone in Sichuan Province. They found that as human disturbance increased, the number of plant species decreased. Certain plant families were more common in disturbed areas. There was a lot of overlap in the niches of plant species in all disturbance levels. The similarity between plant communities changed with the intensity of disturbance. Overall, species richness and diversity decreased with higher levels of human disturbance.
