New high-yielding hybrid rice boosts food production in Fujian province.
A new high-yielding late-season hybrid rice combination called Guyou 5138 was developed by the Rice Research Institute of Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It was created by crossing a CMS line Gufeng A with a restorer line Fuhui 5138. Guyou 5138 showed significantly higher grain yield compared to the check variety Shouyou 63 in tests in Fujian province. This hybrid rice is known for its high and stable yield, resistance to lodging, and wide adaptability. It was officially released in March 2008. The breeding process, main characteristics, and key cultivation and hybrid seed production techniques of Guyou 5138 were introduced in the study.
