Sediment load in Wujiang River basin decreasing significantly due to hydro-projects.
The Wujiang River basin has seen significant changes in runoff and sediment over the years. Runoff has remained stable since 1980, but sediment has decreased by 35%. The construction of hydro-power stations has led to a sharp decrease in sediment load at various stations. Hydraulic structures are mainly responsible for this decrease, with about 15 million tons of sediment being detained annually. The sediment load at Wulong station has decreased by 10.30 million tons. With more hydro-projects being built, the basin's sediment load is expected to decrease further in the future.
