Wheat Straw Transformed into Valuable Products through Enzyme Pretreatment
This research aimed to improve the extraction of hemicellulose, an essential component of wheat straw, for valuable product creation. By using xylanase treatment followed by alkali extraction, the scientists discovered the best conditions for obtaining high hemicellulose yields. The study found that pretreating the straw with xylanase before alkali extraction increased the efficiency of hemicellulose extraction. Specifically, using a 7% NaOH solution at 70 ℃ prior to xylanase treatment, and 7% NaOH at 60 ℃ post-treatment, led to optimal results. Furthermore, the xylanase treatment helped decrease the presence of fines and parenchyma cells in the extracted hemicellulose.
