Poor seismic data quality in Tarim Basin hinders oil exploration.
The researchers studied seismic data in the southwestern Tarim basin to understand the quality of reflections. They found that poor quality reflections are mainly due to complex structures and sedimentation in certain areas. By using multiple parameters, they identified different seismic facies and interpreted sedimentary facies through a systematic process. The areas between Mazatag fault zone and Tumuxiuke fault, as well as the southern and western margins of the basin, have lower quality reflections.
