Sediment control breakthrough boosts river health in Northwest China!
The study looked at how to control sediment and discharge it from a hydropower station in a river in Northwest China. By using physical model experiments, the researchers found that setting up sediment detention weirs and guiding dikes at the power station entrance can help promote sediment discharge without causing large sediment build-up. They also discovered that creating a clear front for sediment ejection under the water intake of the power station, along with periodically opening the sediment ejection way, can effectively remove sediment from the river.
