New Wheat Varieties Boost Crop Yields and Nitrogen Efficiency!
The study tested different wheat varieties to see how well they use nitrogen from the soil and fertilizer. They found that some varieties were better at producing seeds with less nitrogen, while others responded well to added nitrogen. The varieties that were good at taking up nitrogen from the soil didn't always produce the most seeds. This shows that the ability to absorb nitrogen from the soil is important for wheat plants to grow well when there isn't much nitrogen around.
