A new method was developed to improve infrared images with dim-small targets. By using a double plateaus histogram, the algorithm enhances image contrast and preserves details effectively. The background and noise are controlled by setting upper and lower threshold values, while the gray intervals of the histogram are equalized. This new approach outperforms the traditional single plateau histogram method, resulting in better image quality overall.
